Rip Curl International has released its newest ‘Search’ film, Somewhere… The Movie.

In the tradition of classic ‘Search’ films Tripping the Planet, Searching for Tom Curren and Feral Kingdom; Somewhere… escapes the cheap production “just slap it together” stereotype of many current surf movies, instead documenting the true essence of surfing in a well-planned and passionate way.

Rip Curl created its ‘Search’ campaign back in the early 1990s and has been sending its best surfers on missions around the planet ever since - chasing new waves, new experiences and new stories.

Somewhere… is arguably Rip Curl’s most eclectic film release ever, giving 11 talented video editors the unique opportunity to each tell their story of the ‘Search’ via a separate edit from 10 epic Search trips. With the world’s best male and female surfers at the lead, Somewhere… is a diverse grouping of 10 very individual sections, packaged in a random yet methodical order. Headlined by Mick Fanning, Taylor Knox, Pancho Sullivan, Stephanie Gilmore, Jessi Miley-Dyer and Bethany Hamilton, Somewhere… also features a section dedicated to USA Olympic Snowboarder Andy Finch and his Search trip through Chile.

“We had a great team of editors on this project and it was a innovative idea to give each of them the freedom and tools to tell their story of ‘The Search’ in unique ways,” says Neil Ridgway, Rip Curl Group Advertising & Marketing Chairman. “With surf film editors like Matt Beauchesne, Jon Frank and Matt Gye involved, the film was always going to be a winner in our eyes.”

Somewhere… is a revolutionary film for the surf industry and an exciting example of what’s possible with a little freedom and new-age creativity.

The Surf Doctors kept the crowd pumped with loads of prizes to be won. Two lucky winners each received a surf board after a back-bending session of surfboard limbo.
